Nerina Smart was born in Trinidad in the West Indies, and is married with two girls. She is a role model not only for her girls but also to the younger generation that she interacts so well. Nerina demonstrates that one can achieve anything they put their mind to and have the freedom in being a business owner. Her interests include watching soccer and basketball with the family, as well as art and baking.
Since 2006, Nerina has been serving the legal needs of the South Florida community. She brings with her considerable experience and expertise in the areas of civil litigation, real estate, personal injury, immigration, and family law.
Nerina interned with one of the top Board Certified Personal Injury Attorneys in South Florida during her law school career. Once she obtained her license to practice, she gained extensive litigation experience in Insurance Subrogation, Collections, and Real Estate law. As an attorney for major lenders, Nerina litigated hundreds of cases and applies her knowledge to defend and fight for her client’s rights. She continues to fight for her client’s rights in her personal injury cases, which include auto accidents, slip and fall, and dog bites. Her skill, knowledge, and expertise allow her to bring many of these cases to a successful settlement. Nerina also represents the providers who have been denied payment by the insurance companies in Personal Injury Protection cases.
Nerina has earned the reputation of being a highly trained and skillful attorney and has earned the respect of both her clients and her peers. She has fought valiantly for her clients in their family law cases. Her experience includes domestic violence, dissolution, child support and custody matters, alimony, property distribution, and name changes.
The experience gained working in Real Estate law, allowed her to aggressively defend her clients facing foreclosure or eviction. Nerina has represented both landlords and tenants in eviction matters. She also provided legal services to Home Owner Associations and Condo Associations. Nerina also assisted many clients with unwanted houseguests in ejectment actions.
Since entering her own practice in 2009, Nerina has represented numerous individuals in obtaining their residency or citizenship. She represents clients who have filed for Temporary Protective Status (TPS) and Deferred Action. She also represents clients who are in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and has filed appeals on behalf of her clients before the Board of Immigration.
Nerina strongly believes in maintaining strong ties with her local community and is actively involved in the Broward County Law Association, Broward County Women Lawyers Association, the Caribbean Bar Association, Miami Rescue Mission, Legal Aid, and Muscular Dystrophy Association.
